Learn More | Samsung's Series 6 marks the first appearance of TOC (Touch of Color) design in the 2008 LCD HDTV line-up. Inspired by designs from the automotive and fashion industries, Samsung's unique unique Transparent and Opaque Color molding process creates a clean, smooth finish infused with a hint of a translucent color during the manufacturing process for an ultra-sleek appearance. | | | Up-to-the-minute access to weather, news, sports and stock information is just a cable and a click away through the HDTV's Ethernet port and new InfoLink RSS service. An all-new user interface with digital contents management guide provides intuitive navigation and access to both internal and external content. | | This technology doubles the frame rate from 60 to 120 frames per second (120Hz LCD panel) without repeating the same image to make more frames. Instead, the TV intelligently calculates the `middle' image between frame A and frame B and inserts it in between (Auto Motion Plus 120Hz processor), making a fluid transition from one frame to the next. | | | Samsung enhances the clarity of select LCD HDTVs by replacing the light-diffusing plastic face of traditional LCD HDTVs with a natural black panel with a clear anti-glare shield. Reduced reflection of external light creates a new dimension in image clarity, highlighting black and darkened areas, enabling vibrant, more compelling colors and a brighter, clearer picture. Black will never again appear grayish. Black details will show in vivid black even in dark scenes. The latest version of Samsung's breakthrough super clear panel technology makes colors appear more vibrant and blacks even deeper than ever. Enhanced films reduce glare and optimize off-angle viewing. | | | 50,000:1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio will give you a picture better than you ever thought possible, with whiter whites, blacker blacks and a nearly infinite subtlety of gradations in between. As two of the most important determining factors in overall picture quality, contrast and brightness levels achieve new heights in this latest generation LCD panel. Samsung's new LCD TV's give the most stunning realistic picture quality ever. | | Full HD, or 1080p, contains 1.5 times more scanning lines than conventional HD TVs. More scanning lines mean more pixels, more details and a better picture. The new Samsung LCD TV with resolution that is approximately 2 times greater than conventional HDTVs, creating the most perfect picture imaginable. Samsung's 1080p panel uses a new high-speed liquid crystal to cut response time to 4ms. The fast response time, coupled with Samsung's Auto Motion Plus 120Hz motion blur reduction technology dramatically reduces motion blur and judder. | | | DNIe The Samsung Digital Natural Image engine. This exclusive Samsung technology dramatically improves the picture by enhancing the contrast, detail, white balance and reduces. | | The NTSC (National Television Systems Committee) has established the color standards all TVs in America try to meet. And typical LCD TVs only meet about 72% of this standard. Samsung LCD HDTVs use Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp backlights to give you 92% coverage of the NTSC standard, ensuring truer, more breathlessly vivid colors. Samsung's exclusive Wide Color Enhancer technology delivers more brilliant colors, even in bright areas of the picture where blues and greens are washed out on conventional screens. The system displays wider color reproduction, showing you truer colors - the fresh green of spring foliage, the intense blue of the summer sky. | | | | | | To make the Series 6 a true entertainment hub for any home, Samsung has incorporated advanced HD connectivity and networking capabilities that expand the HDTV's functionality. A wide variety of multimedia devices can be connected to the set through any one of the four Simplay compliant HDMI 1.3 inputs (including one on the side), and the handy HDMICEC feature lets you control all your CEC-enabled peripherals using just one remote. Connect HD digital devices like disc players, game consoles, and satellite dish components into the 2 rear connections and use the side-mounted input for cameras, camcorders, and laptops. HDMI is the best performing interface for displaying an HD source on an HDTV. Once connected, users can easily access device menus and manage and display content through the newly redesigned Wheel Key Remote control and the HDTV's sophisticated content management interface. | | You already know something about digital living. There's the TV and digital video recorder in your family room. (And another set in your bedroom.) You have a PC and digital printer in your office, along with a network attached storage device. And you've copied all your music onto your portable music player and haven't had to open a CD case for years. But getting them to talk to each other can be pretty tough. Why is it still so difficult to send digital content from one device to another? Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) is a collaboration of the world's leading consumer electronics, PC and mobile companies that has created design guidelines for a new generation of products that can work together no matter the brand. Think for a moment about all of the photos "locked away" on your home PC that you wish you could access while entertaining your friends and family. Now, thanks to DLNA enabled devices, a DLNA-enabled PC can be accessed from the comfort of your living room or family room via a DLNA-enabled HDTV, where you can enjoy your memories with friends and family, without having to deal with the hassle and non-intuitive "PCexperience". Or, say you recently downloaded your daughter's birthday party video from your digital camcorder to your PC. Now you want to share it with your parents who are visiting. Without DLNA, you probably have to burn a DVD of the video or hook up the camcorder to the TV. With DLNA, you can just use your TV's remote to call up the video on your TV. That's it. | | Samsung's Super Patterned Vertical Alignment (SPVA) panel provides a 178-degree viewing angle from all four axes | TruSurround is a patented SRS technology that solves the problem of playing 5.1 multichannel content over two speakers. TruSurround delivers a compelling, virtual surround sound experience through any two-speaker playback system, including internal television speakers and headphones. It is fully compatible with all multichannel formats up to 5.1 channels. High-quality virtual surround sound can be experienced with just the two hidden, downward-firing side-mounted 2.2-channel dome speakers built into the TV. SRS TruSurround XT technology delivers an amazing, simulated 3D effect with clear dialog and powerful bass. TruSurround XT audio also adds three audio enhancement technologies to produce an amazingly immersive sound experience. - Dialog Clarity brings movie dialog into Focus during the playback of any surround-encoded material to make speech much clearer and crisper.
- TruBass creates incredible deep rich bass allowing a person to perceive significantly deeper, richer low bass tones that are far beyond the physical low frequency capabilities of the speaker itself.
- The SRS WOW feature widens the soundstage by processing standard two-channel stereo material as well as multi-channel encoded material for a dramatic improvement in the playback of any stereo audio over a two-speaker system.
Stereo broadcast reception is offered for MTS and SAP with 181-channel capacity. A sound leveler keeps audio volume consistent during channel changing. | With standard-definition TVs, the rule used to be that viewers would feel comfortable watching a set from a distance of 3 to 6 times the screen size in inches. With HDTV, the resolution is so much better that you can sit closer to a larger TV without noticing the pixels. So with HDTVs, the rule tends to be you can sit anywhere from 1.5 to 3 times the screen size (in inches) for the best experience. If you know the size of the room you have already, where you want to sit, and where your new HDTV should go once you get it, you can figure out the size HDTV you should get. - Minimum size = Viewing distance/3
- Maximum size=Viewing distance/1.5

Great HDTV, average for non-HD content, white glove service overrated August 7, 2008 RAMBO FIRE 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
After 3 weeks of gruelling research, I shortlisted Samsung LN52A650, Panasonic Th-50PZ800U and the Sony XBR series. After watching them all side by side, I dropped Sony off the list as it is simply not worth the price & it wasn't as bright as the other two. And since I had owned a Panasonic EDTV for last 4 years, I was ready to test waters with an LCD TV. After watching the picture quality of the Samsung 6 series, I was blown away. I can confirm to you that this unit offers the best picture quality in LCD, bar none. Also, it comes really close to the Pioneer Kuro in black levels. A few basics. I have used all HDMI 1.3 connections. I have an Onkyo TX-SR705 A/V receiver which is great. HD Content from DirecTV with DVR - Watching HD content from DirecTV is pure pleasure to eyes. Eventhough I am sitting just 7-8 feet from this huge TV, I see breathtaking picture quality that I did not notice in any other HDTVs. Blu-Ray on PS3 - I downloaded a few HD trailers from Sonystoreonline using my PS3 and also watched Spider-Man3 on Blu-Ray. This was simply spectacular. Non-HD content - I am quite disappointed with the quality of picture with non-HD content on this TV. My old Panasonic plasma did a much better job at this. My only hope is that most channels would make the switch to HD in the coming years. 120 Hz experience - May be its me but I couldn't see a visible difference between keeping this feature on versus off. 6 series versus 7 series - The extra pre-loaded content and a better integrated speaker weren't worth $400 premium for the 7 series. I would suggest you stick to the 6 series. But watch out the amazon price fluctuations, you shouldn't be paying more than $2270 for the 6 series. White Glove Delivery - The CEVA shipping took about 7 business days and I had to be proactively calling them to schedule the delivery and track shipments. A lone fellow showed up at my doorstep struggling to lift the TV up my front porch. I had to help him bring the TV inside. Onbce he got in, after a little effort in helping me place the TV on the stand, I could see his desperation to leave. Hence, I had to sign him off and call a pal in to help me with the rest. I am satisfied with this service but not super-excited like some others.
The lcd tv I have been waiting for... August 7, 2008 JBS (Sioux Falls SD) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I did quite a bit of research before ordering this tv. I was strongly considering a Panasonic 50" that was similar in price. What I liked about this tv was the contrast and 120 hz refresh. I got the tv and I ordered the Peerless tilt mount with it. I set the mount on maximum angle, because I was mounting the tv three feet off the ground and I didn't want to strain my head watching it. I was installing the TV in a new home which I had a built in made above the fire place for. The mount kit was easy to install and the tv just hangs on the mount. My tiny wife helped me connect the wires while I lifted it and hung it. I would recommend two men to install. I tuned the tv on and connected it to over the air rabbit ears. I pulled in several HD channels. You can tell which programs were recorded in 1080P because WOW the picture is incredible. The black levels are awesome. The viewing angle is easily 180 degrees. The detail is very crisp and the motion is smoothe. I have been shopping lcd tv's for years and this is the first one that I have seen beat the quality of a picture tube for clarity, color and brightness. Everyone is raving about Samsung being the leader in flat panel tv's for a reason - they are. Sorry Sony, you had your glory days with Trintron. The touch of red struck me as weird, but it looks nice. My wife likes the appearance too. The built in speakers sound great. There are TONS of input connections. My only complaint is that I have to go purchase a Blue Ray DVD and I will probably need to upgrade to HD sattellite. Once you see 1080P on this TV you will want nothing less. That being said it does a good job of scaling up standard definition, way better than my friends Sony CRT projection TV that is also 1080P. There are so many positive reviews on this tv that I don't know why you would not purchase it. One caution about the price. It was as low as $2180 at one point, but I paid $2229. Today it was over $2400 which is more than Best Buy runs it on sale. Just watch the price because it bounces like a superball.
Awesome TV! August 7, 2008 T-Dogg (NJ) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This TV is great! Picture is bright and incredibly clear! Red color looks awsome. Can't wait to hook my computer up to it.
The best 52" LCD around ... go ahead and get it! August 5, 2008 Hitech (Western NC) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'll admit this was a little bit of an impulse buy. I work in a service industry where I'm in many different people's homes and businesses on a daily basis. I had a 30" HDTV (CRT type) that I bought a few years ago as a necessity when my old 27" SDTV died on me. It looked good but I really liked the flat-panel look, especially with all the wires hidden/fished in the walls, which I'd seen in many homes. The space you'll save without an entertainment center if you wall mount is incredible. I'm really into movies and sports, and I liked what everyone here was saying about the Samsung series 6, so I went over to my favorite big box electronics store to compare and see them in person. I really was set on the 46", but I'll tell you the 52" is the way to go if you can swing it. It looks so much better at a distance of 12' or greater over the 46", and I love it. The picture is number one as far as I can tell, compared to anything I've seen in the stores. So I pulled the trigger, at least I thought so, Amazon approved me for exactly $100 less than the TV cost to get the 0%/36 mo financing offer on their card. They "said" they would ask the bank for $100 more on the limit, but I never heard anything, and you can't put part on the Amazon card and part on a debit card or the like, so I cheated (like someone else here mentioned) and bought myself a gift certificate to make up the balance. And away we went. CEVA/Eagle Logistics showed up about 2 days before the original delivery date, so I was pumped. The fellows set it up (initially) on the stand and plugged in my HDMI DVD player to make sure it worked, and were very courteous. I then wall mounted the unit, along with fishing all my HDMI cables in the wall, along with a recessed AC plate installed behind the TV. (I do low-voltage wiring for a living). It simply looks amazing. I bought an audio pier for my components below, and it works great, very high-tech looking. The TV is simply stunning. And you can't go wrong. Just do it. Do yourself a favor and schedule your upgrade to HD with your satellite or cable provider as soon as you order, so there won't be a lapse in SD to HD programming. SD looks OK, but a 52" makes it look worse than say a 30" LCD. I went to a Dish Network VIP 722 Dual Tuner HD DVR. You'll probably also want an Upconverting DVD player with HDMI or a BluRay player if you watch a lot of movies. Make sure to check in for price drops over the first 30 days, Amazon gave me a $95 refund during this period to make it over $700 cheaper than BestBuy.
Best TV. Period August 4, 2008 F. Ycaza (Spring, TX) Shop around all you like, but to this date this TV is your best choice for <$3000 big screen HD experience. A word of warning: 120Hz is great, but remember that movies are filmed at 25 frames per second, therefore a 120fps will look a little "too" real modifying the way the movie was intended to look in the first place, if you have seen a movie in PAL format (30fps) you will get the idea. Also there will be a blur every time the movie pans around. In Video games however, is the best quality yet! With that said... 1080p in 60hz (or maybe 120hz set to low)it looks amazing, the overall product is great. And you should stop here and go buy it.
