Product Description
In the fast-paced world of home entertainment, you are faced with a myriad of choices. More often than not, more choices than you really want to make. If you`re after a playback component that`s going to take care of your core entertainment needs-DVD Video, music CDs, and your computer-based music and video files-then the DV-SP406 DVD/CD/MP3 player makes good sense. It actually goes a lot further by upscaling video sources to 1080p, for a one-cable HDMI digital connection to a high-definition display. Unlike other, poorly built players, the DV-SP406 has the Onkyo reputation to live up to.That`s why you`ll find quality components such as a 192 kHz/24-bit audio DAC and a 108 MHz/14-bit video DAC to promote overall playback quality; an intuitive Disc Navigator system that simplifies control over disc media; and a remote control that can be used with an integrated system.

5 out of 5 stars Greatest MP3 player on the planet...   July 28, 2010
HDsr (Nashville, TN USA)
I bought one of these a few months ago-- liked it so well-- I just bought another
for my bedroom. It's an excellent DVD player, but I bought it mostly for playing
MP3s that I record on CDs using my computer. Just pop it in-- hit the 'random'
button on the remote-- and enjoy 12 hours of music. Added bonus: The remote also
controls my Onkyo receiver. It's a great product and it's reasonably priced.

1 out of 5 stars Defective Onkyo DV-SP406B Defective - Returning this item   May 11, 2010
Tom B. (USA)
I purchased this unit based upon good reviews. However, the picture generated from this DVD player was distorted even in the set up mode (no disk inserted). No DVD (I tried several) would load with good video. All pictures were scrambled. The connections were double check for correctness. I assume I received a defective unit and am returning it ASAP for a refund.

5 out of 5 stars Very good upscaling quality, well built DVD player.   April 30, 2010
Julius Kovatch (Roseville, California USA)
You spend some extra money on this unit compared to lower priced units but it is well worth the price. Any Onkyo is exceptionally well built and reliable and this one is no exception. You definitely get what you pay for, a very good quality upscaling reliable DVD player.
I had a new Sony upscaling DVD player before I purchased this one for just about half the price and it broke down on me in a week + Sony just simply dropped the tray opening and closing feature on their remote. You can live wihtout it but it is certainly very convenient for me, I dont have to kneel down and look for the button which opens the tray.
One thing a want to mention about this unit, Amazon has it incorrectly in their technical description that it is 20.5 inches wide and reading this after I ordered it I sent it back to Amazon for refund since it would not match the rest of my components and it cost me $10 for shipping it back. But a friend of mine had one and I was surprised to see that the width of the unit is the standard 17" just like all the other components. I reordered it and sure enough it was 17" wide and stacked fine with my other components. Amazon could have saved me $10 if their description is correct.
If you want a good reliable DVD player don't even think about it just buy it.

5 out of 5 stars love onkyo, but NO USB on U.S. model??   February 21, 2010

ok, in my opinion, onkyo flat out rocks! i have a home theater system that will shake the nails out of the walls. so, when i went looking for a dvd palyer, i thought, "why not an onkyo?" sure it is a little higher priced than others, but if it has the same quality as my 7.1 surround system, it will be a great investment.

well, i was right, for the most part. got the dvd player, ripped open the box like a 3 yr. old on christmas and then...disappintment set in. the description plainly said "its front-panel USB interface allows easy transfer of your digital music files for playback via your entertainment system." and its divx compatability would be awesome for my blue million divx files. then again, it has to have a USB port to hook up an external, right? i immediately went in search of the seemingly elusive USB port. was it on the back? no. wait, how about the left or right side? no sucess. ok, ok. it has to be hid under a panel on the front. nope, no such panel.

well then, let us have a look @ the manual. and there it was, in plain black and white ENGLISH: except on US models. what gives? like us Americans don't use USB flash drives or externals?? oh well, whatever the case, i hooked it up, cranked it up and me (and my neighbors) enjoyed Iron Man in true digi-tal 7.1 surround sound elegance. the included remote for both the dvd player and my onkyo receiver worked both units, what a bonus! it was a keeper if only it would have had the USB port.

oh well, amazon took it back with no issues (at least not yet, i am just waiting on my refund). but amazon rocks, right? in conclusion, this is a good, solid buy if u don't have any use for a USB port.

4 out of 5 stars Item as described   February 13, 2010

Everything seems to be fine, the only complaint I have is that I'm afraid of breaking the DVD door that comes out, seems pretty flimsy.
