Product Description
The JVC DR-MV79B DVD/VCR Combo Recorder is a quality multi-format DVD/VCR combo recorder that offers great features. This unit has a progressive-scan player capable of upconverting your current DVD library to a 1080p high-definition experience. Record your favorite home movies onto DVD-R/W, DVD+R/W and DVD-RAM discs with a choice of 4 different recording speeds. Enjoy Dolby Digital/DTS audio decoding, Timer-Link recording capability, DivX, DV-input, and HDMI-output. With multi-format playback capabilities, connectivity to virtually any A/V source, Quasi (S-VHS) playback, coaxial/optical digital-audio outputs, One-Touch (bi-directional) Dubbing, and 12-hour recording capability, your entertainment choices are endless with the JVC DR-MV79B. Just connect your digital video camera to the unit's DV-input terminal, and you're ready to record images onto a DVD recordable disc. With playback specifications that meet the standards of professionals, this recorder features a component video output for high-resolution low-distortion video playback. Front A/V inputs allow you to plug your accessories directly into the unit without having to pull it out of your entertainment center and messing with the rear inputs. This is a progressive scan DVD player, capable of scanning an entire video frame at once. Scan-lines commonly associated with interlaced video are drastically reduced. The result is a spectacularly clear image with no motion artifacts (stair-stepping), and details so sharp they seem as if they're etched onto the screen. If you're looking for a DVD player with exquisite audio playback, this unit will do the job. Use the coaxial or optical audio outputs to connect the DVD player to your home theater receiver and enjoy full Dolby Digital surround-sound entertainment. One-Touch Recording provides a simple and convenient way to make a recording. Simply connect the recorder to your cable or satellite box and then to your TV,

2 out of 5 stars Disappointed   January 3, 2009
Cold (New York, New York United States)
I've had this for a little over a year now and it's been a problem since day one. Sometimes it works fine and others it freezes up and says it can't play the disc or it'll stop in the middle of the recording for no reason. I can't delete programs off my DVR until I've completed recording the whole disc, finalized it and played it back, because there's an even shot that there will be a problem somewhere along the way.

1 out of 5 stars JVC has a horrible quality/reliability history with dual decks ...   October 19, 2008

I recommend buyers look at the Amazon reviews for defunct JVC VHS/DVD
dual deck products before they purchase any current dual deck model.
They have a proven history of extremely poor build quality. JVC keeps
rapidly changing model numbers, which makes this more difficult for
the consumer to discover. However they all look very similar with
only slight cosmetic differences.

Search on these item numbers and see for yourself:

4 out of 5 stars Does a lot for the money   October 9, 2008

This DVD/VCR Combo Recorder deck has become an important part of my production studio. It has many recording options which is of high importance to me. I didn't need the TV tuner so it's nice they have a cheaper model that doesn't include it. One very cool aspect is the HDMI output. Once I get the proper equipment, I'll be able to capture high quality material through this connection. Until then, however, I'm having to run through a camcorder to get the video into the computer. That's where the one major downside of this deck for me comes in. There is a DV In port on the front which is great, but it's only an In port. It can't output through that port. A lot of hassle would be avoided if it could. That's the reason for docking it a star. Other than that, I couldn't be more pleased with this deck and all the functions it can perform.
