Product Description The large 8.5" widescreen display pivots for free-style viewing so you can adjust the position for optimum comfort and image quality. You can also adjust the screen brightness to get the best view of your DVDs in all kinds of light conditions. You get beautiful images while watching movies on a dimly lit airplane, or when you're relaxing in the sun at a resort or other outdoor spot. When you're in the mood for a movie, this versatile player can play back many different types of prerecorded DVDs, including DVD-RAM/-R/-RW and DVD+R/+RW discs. If you want to give your eyes a rest and listen to some tunes instead, the portable DVD player handles lots of the most popular audio formats around, including CDs, MP3s, CD-R/RW discs and WMA files. The DVD-LS83 portable DVD player comes with a built-in rechargeable battery that gives you a full six hours of playback, long enough to catch a couple of movies on a single battery charge. It's the perfect travel companion for those really long car rides and flights!

Great DVD player for price December 30, 2008 Maurine D. Baker The box was badly damaged when it arrived but I have to say our delivery service has a habit of this. The player was in good condition however and my relatives who received it as a gift are thrilled. The picture is great and it's easy to use. Thanks
A Good Value November 29, 2008 G. Peacock 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this primarily for the hinge design, due to the fact that this replaces a Best Buy brand (insignia) because it failed at the swivel hinge. We recently used this new DVD player on a 2 hr. road trip. The battery was fully charged. The picture quality is decent. However, if you want to see it brighter you waste more battery power. We had to use the car charger on our way back. The volume max was not enough to be heard over the trafic noise, so we switched to headphones, then we were able to drown out the traffic noise (still maxed volume) With the insignia, we would have to lower the volume to the bare minimum with headphones. Overall a good value for the money. We were able to watch two good movies on an otherwise boring car ride.
Reliable and visually impressive September 16, 2008 Rocinante 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
The other people didn't read the package: it says 6 hours playback when the brightness of the screen is dimmed. On an airplane or train with the shades down it is perfectly visible on the moonlight setting.
Beware Bad Batteries !! August 29, 2008 Paul A. Ballard (Bethesda, MD, USA) 2 out of 13 found this review helpful
I purchase in 2004 a Panasonic DVD-LX9 portable DVD player for $800. Until recently, it worked fine. However, the built-in but detachable battery just went bad and needs replacing. Panasonic has discontinued the battery, and without it the player won't work even on mains power ! So, my expensive investment is now quite useless ! All Panasonic is prepared to do is offer a small discount to buy a much inferior unit. SO MY ADVICE IS : DON'T BUY PANASONIC LEST THEY DISCONTINUE THE BATTERY LATER !!
sucks July 15, 2008 C. Murazane (Hilo, HI USA) 8 out of 15 found this review helpful
Warning. The battery does not last 6 hours. It barely last 3 hours. Panasonic use to be good while I was growing up, but now it's almost like false advertising saying the battery last 6 hours. There's a catch and that is you have to turn down the brightness and/or contrast for the battery to last and turning it down makes it look real bad. No one watches a dvd like that in real life.
