I bought this at Target, not Amazon, so I can't be sure it's the same player, but the MVD2050 from Memorex (with HDMI output and a card reader) is emphatically not worth the $50 I payed.

First off: it doesn't resume where you stopped after turning off the DVD player, a standard option on most players. It usually starts playing discs with the captions on. This may be a setting that one can change, but the MVD 2050 has built-in parental content controls, the initial password for which I don't have. Some of the settings may be behind that password somewhere.

Also, the picture quality has gotten progressively worse over time on the HDMI output. I can't be certain this is the DVD player itself, but given the other problems and generally low quality of this line of players, I wouldn't doubt it.

2 out of 5 stars It plays but...   September 3, 2008
IN LA
Machine is noisy, tiny tiny buttons on remote(frustrating), there's a time limit on pause, then the player will automatically shut off AND the machine does not have the capability to resume where you leave off on viewing once stopped or turned off. If it cost $19.99, I wouldn't complain, but for $40 and tax, I'm taking it back.

I picked this up at a local store. I give it 1 star because so far, it plays DVDs. However, the remote that comes with it has issues: it uses a CR2025 coin battery; the remote is very small; has a non-standard button layout; tiny lettering on the surface; and it is useless in dim lighting (non-illuminated). The worst part about it is that Memorex does not support the universal remote code protocol, so you can't put this DVD player on your all-in-one remote. (I contacted their customer support via email to confirm this fact).

So, if you don't care about the remote issues, this unit is cheap, does HDMI pretty well, and plays DVDs, at least for now.

I bought this 2 months ago and it stopped working. Right in the middle of play, there is a loud pop and the screen freezes. After this, the only way to access any features or to eject the disk is to unplug the player and plug it back in. It works for about 5 or 10 minutes and the same problem comes back. I never turned in the warranty card, so now I have to buy another DVD player, definitely not Memorex this time
