Amazon.com Product Description Save space in your entertainment center with the vividly colorful 27-inch Akai LCT2701TD LCD TV with integrated side slot-loading DVD player. It's ready to display high-definition television programming (480p, 720p, and 1080i) with an optional HD receiver or via an HD-capable cable/satellite set-top box. It can also be used as a PC monitor with a VGA input. The DVD player is compatible with DVD movie and CD audio discs as well as music mixes burned to CD-R/RW discs. It features a 1366 x 768-pixel native resolution, 550 cd/m2 high brightness rating for a brilliant picture in any environment, and 1000:1 contrast ratio for an incredible picture with deeper blacks and brighter whites. It's also easily viewable from all around the room with its 176-degree viewing angle. It offers component video input for HD viewing as well as composite A/V and S-Video inputs. It also has a digital coaxial audio output, enabling you to run sound through a surround sound home theater system. The LCT2701TD performs 3:2 pulldown detection and reversal, too--a handy feature for watching progressive-scan movie programs in their native 24-frame format. To adapt 24 frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video, frames in the original movie must be duplicated; 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this duplication by removing the redundant information to display a frame-accurate picture. The 2D comb filter separates chrominance (color) from luminance (brightness) information in the video signal for independent processing to improve picture resolution and minimize distortion. Tech Talk Component Video Input: You'll get great picture reproduction from compatible DVD players or cable/satellite set-top boxes using the three-jack component video (Y/Pb/Pr) output, which provides separate connections for luminance (Y), blue color difference (PB) and red color difference (PR). This results in increased bandwidth for color information, resulting in a more accurate picture with clearer color reproduction and less bleeding than you would get with S-Video or composite (RCA yellow video plug) connections. Akai tv's are garbage! March 9, 2008 Gina Nowicki (ny, ny) I purchased an Akai LCD from Radio Shack, within 3 months the picture would black out - obviously some component overheating. Sent it in for repair under warranty. Two months later, they sent me back a totally different set with scratches all over the case. The remote was a Phillips universal that they had painted black over the name! The set is too large for a specific area that I purchased the original one for. I emailed Akai 4 times and get only a generic response that says: "Thank you for your inquiry. Your email will be answered as soon as possible. If you want to order parts, please call 888-498-7278. If you want to speak to a representative (customer service, tech support, or to request service), please call 866-278-5900. Again, thank you for your business." I contacted customer service and explained what had happened and told them that I wanted my original set back. They said they couldn't do anything about it, they would have to contact Akai to see what they could do. It's been over a week and I have not heard from Akai. Do yourselves a favor and don't buy their garbage products backed up by NO customer service whatsoever!

I am cheap and have been holding out for just the right deal. I find it difficult to justify 500.00 to 1,000.00 for a 27" LCD TV. The result is that I have been watching the same tube 19" tv in my bedroom for 15 years! I found this on line as a reman for 369.00 at (...). The sound is ok. Two speakers under the screen, not dolby 7.1, but ok for the bed room. The picture is great! I also love having a built in DVD player. Are there better? I am sure there are, however at this price I could not find any. I have read in other user reviews that there is a static sound that comes up. I have found this occationally on the lower analog channels of comcast cable. I unplug the cable box and tv, plug them back in and the problem goes away. It seems to be channel specific. I had comcast out, however they can't find anything wrong. If I just unplug the tv, the problem stays. I do not think this is a tv problem. I recomend this tv if: 1-You do not mind factory reconditioned 2-You want a combo tv/dvd 3-You are cheap and refuse to pay the inflated prices.
DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT-BEWARE!! October 17, 2006 Adrian Elias (USA) 20 out of 22 found this review helpful
We received the Akai 27 inch LCD TV, refurbished and paid $679.00. It was delivered defective with a loud buzzing noise. The product is not refundable & there is no "LIVE" person to speak with from Amazon. We were informed that we had to go through Akai for repair. We have made dozens of phone calls-It has been three weeks and no one has come to repair the TV- Never buy a refurbished TV and never purchase an Akai product. They make promises, will not let us talk to a supervisor or corporate headquarters. Awful!!

I've been waiting over a month for customer service on a dead screen. Do not buy Akai. Ask the Better Business Bureau. --update-- Akai finally found a service center to pick up the TV. The guy was great and was in contact with me the whole time. Unfortunately, Akai took months to get him schematics for the power supply, which wasn't broken. They wouldn't give him anything else. Akai did call Sam's club for us and let us return the TV. STAY AWAY FROM AKAI!

I searched all the local stores and could only find a couple of flat screens with a built in DVD player. It seems to me that more would have that feature because the whole point of a flat screen to me is to save space. I put this out in a florida type room and so there wasnt much free space for a table and coventional tv so I thought, flat screen mounted to the wall would be perfect. Then I thought well heck if I have to get a DVD player it has to go on a stand under the tv and there goes my space savings. So a built in DVD player was the answer. WOW what a perfect choice. Beautiful picture, no floor space taken up and built in DVD player. I love it and highly recommend it.
