Toshiba 32D46 is a standard definition color TV that includes both NTSC analog and ATSC digital TV tuners. ATSC is a future-related feature. According to the Federal Communications Commission, analog TV broadcast and reception will cease in early 2009 and be replaced by digital. At that point, your NTSC tuner will no longer function. That's when the built-in ATSC digital TV tuner takes over. You'll hardly miss a second of TV reception on that eventful day.
The Surround sound and built-in 5W speakers envelope you in rich audio; MTS stereo provides high-quality stereo broadcasts. V-Chip parental controls keep children from being exposed to undesirable material. Other convenient features include sleep/game timer, on timer, closed captioning, channel labeling and trilingual on-screen display. Front A/V inputs let you easily connect a camcorder, gaming console or DVD player without rummaging behind the TV.

Enjoy excellent video imagery and audio performance from the affordable 32-inch Toshiba 32D46 non-flat CRT television for years to come. It features a standard 4:3 aspect ratio screen and 480i (interlaced) display resolution, which isn't compatible with the pristine imagery of true high-def resolution broadcasts. However, you'll still be able to receive digital broadcasts thanks to the set's built-in ATSC (DTV) tuner--which pulls HD signals right from the airwaves--and its QAM tuner that is fully compatible with unscrambled HDTV cable reception. A standard analog NTSC tuner receives standard-definition (SD) programming. Surprisingly slim at just 19.25 inches deep, its attractive silver and gray cabinet will look great in any room For viewing HDTV and widescreen DVD movies, this set offers selectable 16:9 aspect ratio modes (the native high-def aspect ratio) for displaying widescreen HDTV images on this 4:3 television. The vertical compression mode function creates black bars at the top and bottom of the screen and displays all 1080 lines inside the illuminated 16:9 portion of the screen. The digital comb filter converts chrominance and luminance signals into a digital medium prior to separation and 2H delay. This process provides enhanced color purity and reduced dot crawl. It's also able to eliminate detail noise in intricate scenes as well as reduce color bleed from broadcast sources. The advanced velocity scan modulation feature improves black to white image transitions for sharper detail and enhanced picture definition in high brightness operating conditions. The GameTimer feature also allows parents to set the TV to shut off after a specified period of game playing, and it will stay off until a lockout key code is entered. Other features include a glow-key remote contol, closed caption decoding, channel labeling, favorite channel, tri-lingual onscreen menus (English, French, Spanish), and V-Chip parental controls. This set has two stereo speakers that produce 2.5 watts of power per channel (5 watts total) that can produce virtual surround sound. The double baffle front-firing speaker design delivers improved stereo sound reproduction without connection additional speakers. The StableSound feature eliminates the annoyance of normal program volume being followed immediately by extremely loud commercial messages or drastic volume fluctuations while changing channels. Tech Talk
Component video (also called Y/Pb/Pr) features a three-jack video input, which provides separate connections for luminance (Y), blue color difference (PB) and red color difference (PR). This results in increased bandwidth for color information, resulting in a more accurate picture with clearer color reproduction and less bleeding than you would get with S-Video or composite (RCA yellow video plug) connections. I have owned this set for around 1.5 years. In the last couple of months, there has been an intermittant problem where the picture disappears and is reduced to a single horizontal line. Sometimes shutting off the TV and turning it back on works to make the problem temporarily disappear, and sometimes it takes multiple attempts to make this work. Sometimes we must unplug the set for 5 minutes and then turn back on to get the picture back. The set is out of warranty. The problem is occuring so often that I am starting to shop for a new set.

This TV rocks. The color, the sound, the picture -- they all work so well together to provide owners with heightened TV viewing pleasure. And the price of the unit is hard to beat. Definitely a keeper.

We are very happy with this TV. We returned a model from the local store that cost twice this much, and got this one instead. Great picture. We are completely satisfied.
