Product Description
Featuring 5.1-channel surround sound combined with progressive scan DVD technology, the Audiovox DV1201 home theater system integrates elite-level sound and video to successfully emulate (and even surpass) the movie theater experience. The progressive scan feature generates a picture with twice the scan lines of conventional DVD images, improving your resolution and sharpening the objects onscreen while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts. The DV1201 also features a built-in Dolby Digital and Pro Logic II decoder, letting you complement your favorite DVD movies with full, rich sound. In addition, the system offers other sound adjustments--including movie, music, and matrix modes--that actively replicate the aural attributes of a theater, stadium, concert hall, or intimate club. Whether you're watching movies, rooting for your favorite team, or listening to music, the DV1201 generates exciting sound that livens up your home.

The system comes with four magnetically shielded satellite speakers, a center channel speaker, and a powered subwoofer. The 200-watt unit also offers such DVD functions as multi-angle playback, zoom, slow motion forward and reverse, secondary audio (when available), programmable memory, and repeat playback. Viewers can switch between 4:3 pan scan, 4:3 letterbox, and 16:9 widescreen modes to increase their video options. The receiver is also equipped with an integrated AM/FM tuner with 20 presets, and to further enrich your audio options, the DVD player is compatible with DVD Video, audio CD, CD-R, CD-RW, MP3, and JPEG picture disc formats.

The DV1201 invites users to add additional components using its host of video and audio connections, including a digital audio output, a component video output (ideal for connecting to a high-definition TV), one composite input and one output, and an S-video output. The system comes with a remote control and carries a 90-day warranty against defects.

4 out of 5 stars 2nd one worked   May 12, 2010
M. M. Bubniak (Central Illinois)
This is a good product for the price, however the first one that we received did not work properly. The music/sound effects came through really loud and the dialogue came through soft. It was impossible to get a balance that would allow us to watch a DVD. The sound and picture also didn't match up while using the DVD player. We were able to return it, and the second one works much better. It's not a $500 system, but then again, we didn't pay for a $500 system. It also looks nicer than the picture shows here.

I also remembered Audiovox as a good brand, and I must say that so far, I have not been disappointed. I have had this unit for about 2 weeks and have had none of the troubles that other people mentioned in their reviews. The fan motor is very quiet(can hardly hear it run), it plays more than loud enough for my taste(what was it that other reviewer said about getting old??). Overall I am quite satisfied with this product, a very good product for the money!

1 out of 5 stars this is a piece of junk   January 14, 2010

I got this piece of junk as a gift from my company on my 15 year anniversary, the picture quality is BAD and the sound is wayyyyy tooo awfulllll. I got so mad at myself for not choosing something else, my 20 year old t.v. has better sound and picture quality than this home theater.I had tried to returned but they don't want it back, so I took this unit to my back yard, then I got my sledge hammer and wow, what a stress relief, I turn this junk into pieces and then to the trash can. that was the best part.

4 out of 5 stars decent system for the money   July 23, 2009

I have not had a problem but only had it a short time thus far. Guess we're old because I don't need a cd player loud enough to beat the neighbors. lol No humming etc... others are talking about yet. Sounds great with "in stereo" movies. Little low volume on ones that aren't. So far it's a decent system for watching movies and playing cd's on - esp. for the money. If your a kid who wants a system that will blow your drums out then buy something else. If you want a decent and inexpensive system that plays movies and cd's well then it's a good deal. We may try 2 different speakers later for the front.

I had this stereo for 2 years before all but two of the speakers and the Subwoofer cords snaped the connections are not very great I would suggest saving you money and buying a better quality stereo.
